Program Description

A. School-Based

The goal of the School-Based Program is to provide comprehensive mental health services to children and youth in an effort to ameliorate symptoms of mental illness before they create major disruption in the child’s life. Services include but are not limited to providing a comprehensive mental health assessment, service planning, case management, individual/family therapy, psychiatric evaluation, medication support, and crisis management. School-based services are provided at various elementary, middle, and high schools within Lynwood Unified School District and Paramount Unified School District. Services are provided primarily in the school setting and transition to the home/community when school is not in session.

B. Prevention and Early Intervention (PEI)

Mental Health Services which focus on the prevention and early intervention of mental health issues. Prevention services aim to reduce risk factors and increase protective factors to improve overall well-being. Early intervention services are short-term, low intensity services aimed at improving mental health problems before there is a need for more intensive services. SCHARP currently provides the following Evidenced-Based Programs under Prevention and Early Intervention Services: Interpersonal Psychotherapy for Depression (IPT), Managing and Adapting Practice (MAP), and Trauma Focused CBT (TF-CBT). Services are provided in the home, school, and community setting.

C. Specialized Foster Care

This program provides mental health services for children and youth in the child welfare system. SCHARP collaborates with the LA County Service Area 6 Department of Mental Health Services Coordinator to provide identified children and youth with a comprehensive mental health assessment, treatment planning, individual/family therapy, case management, crisis management, psychiatric evaluation and medication support services. Services are provided in the home, school, and community setting.

D. Outpatient Care Services (OCS)

Services include medication management and support, housing services, outreach and engagement screenings and assessments to determine the level of functioning and impairment, individual, dyadic, family and group psychotherapy, crisis intervention, family education and support, linkage and case management.
